Join photographer and author Andy Selters, and arctic guide and advocate Brennan Lagasse for an evening portrayal of this northeast corner of Alaska making headlines for both grandeur and proposed oil development.
Andy will share his pictures and tales from a north-south traverse through the Brooks Range, and Brennan will present his perspectives from many visits as a leader of expeditions and youth groups, including work with the native peoples and an overview of the threats from oil development and climate change.
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most extensive and magnificent wild areas in the world, a spectacularly vast and varied region of monumental yet threatened wildlife migrations, and native peoples whose subsistence and identity depend on them.
Andy Selters is a former mountain guide, now a photographer, writer, roofer, and T’ai-chi instructor. His books include the award-winning Ways to The Sky, An Historical Guide to North American Mountaineering, Glacier Travel and Crevasse Rescue, and a historical photograph book on the Inyo National Forest.
Brennan Lagasse is a ski guide, writer, and educator living in Lake Tahoe, California. He has guided human-powered trips to Antarctica, Kyrgyzstan, Alaska, Greenland, and the Himalayas. Brennan is a professor at Sierra Nevada College where he is also the Chair of the Sustainability Department. He has written articles for multiple publications on subjects ranging from indigenous rights to land use and maintains a blog about backcountry skiing. He has visited the Arctic Refuge several times and continues working with the protection movement and natives there.
