On top of everything going on nowadays, and especially as fires continue to burn all around the state and western US, we hope that you are safe and healthy. And we want to thank our brave first responders and everyone who is working to fight these fires. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Hello

On top of everything going on nowadays, and especially as fires continue to burn all around the state and western US, we hope that you are safe and healthy. And we want to thank our brave first responders and everyone who is working to fight these fires.

With the closures of all National Forests in the state, our work continues to shift but we are still working hard to care for the land. In fact, we are looking to do something we've never done before: extend our Trail Ambassadors' season to address the widespread impacts of this summer season. Please consider making a donation so that we can pick up the trash and repair damage to the trails and trailheads.

Finally, in this issue of the Juniper, you will be able to read an update on our Stewardship Program, show your support for Conglomerate Mesa with new posters and lawn signs, and read a Q&A with local author Kendra Atleework. I hope you enjoy this issue of the Juniper.

Sincerely,

Kyle Hamada
Communications Director

September Stewardship Update & Highlights

Our Trail Ambassadors have been busier than ever as the dog days of summer are here. Whether it's picking up trash, working with the Athenian School, or heading out on trips with our Forest Service partners, August has been one heck of a month for our Stewardship team. Read Stewardship Director Alex Ertaud's latest update in a new blog post.

K2 Gold is here in Inyo County and renting office space in Lone Pine

While here, the CEO of the company is going to try to gain support for mining Conglomerate Mesa. As local residents and businesses, we need to continue to send the same message that we have been for decades: this land should be protected from mining and protected for its conservation values.

Get a Conglomerate Mesa poster or yard sign today! Pick a poster with a message that you like best and we can send it to you. Email bryan@friendsoftheinyo to request a poster or yard sign.

Get to Know Local Author Kendra Atleework

Supporter of Friends of the Inyo and talented writer Kendra Atleework recently recently published her book, “Miracle Country.” We’ve partnered with her to give away copies of her book in our #DontTrashTheTrails giveaway. But we wanted to get to know Kendra even better, so we connected (virtually) and she answered some burning questions, including:

  • What inspired you to write this book?
  • What concerns you and what makes you hopeful about the future of the Eastern Sierra and its communities?
  • What is it like publishing a book during a pandemic?

Help us raise $10,000 to extend the season of our Trail Ambassador crew.

2020 has been a uniquely challenging summer season. But our Trail Ambassador crew has been picking up hundreds of pounds of trash, remediating the damage caused by illegal camping, fires, and parking, and keeping trails clear of wandering rocks, logs, and brush.

But our current funding will only keep our crew out there for a few more weeks. There is so much more work that needs to be done and we know that we can't stop this important work just yet.

We need your help to raise $10,000 to enable us to extend the season of our Trail Ambassador crew and continue work on our Don’t Trash the Trails Campaign. With your help, we can keep crews out there until all the trash is picked up, and all the damage to our lands has been addressed.

When you make a donation, we'll send you a #DontTrashTheTrails sticker so that you can show that you are a part of the solution! To make a meaningful online donation today click the button below.
